Solar air collectors convert solar energy into heat extremely effectively and supply it directly to the building without any conversion processes. They are considered an important building block to climate-neutral industrial heating. The solar air collectors consist of a perforated and sturdy surface made of aluminium. With its solar-activated, selective coating, the collector ensures highly efficient conversion of solar energy into thermal energy.

Solar air collectors can be designed with and without fresh air supply. The recirculating air variant also has an enclosure and transparent cover made of UV-resistant polycarbonate. The solar air collectors are easy to install, completely maintenance-free and can be implemented quickly for both new and existing buildings. Thanks to the use of lightweight materials and the resulting low weight bearing characteristics, they can be mounted on almost all facades of industrial buildings.

How Do Solar Air Collectors Work?

When the sun’s rays – even the smallest amounts – hit the solar-active surface, the energy is converted into thermal energy. The perforation allows air to flow through the absorber, thus absorbing the heat from the heated surface. The air is then tranferred into the building by means of a fan.

Alternatively, the warm air can also be transferred to another heat transfer medium, for example via an air-water heat exchanger. This opens up almost a wealth of possibilities for further uses, either for feeding the heat into a boiler system, into an underfloor heating system or into a ventilation system. Solar air collectors can be combined with the following Schwank systems, among others:

  • infrared heaters (luminous- and tube-heaters)
  • warm air heaters
  • heat pumps (gas heat pumps, electric heat pumps, hybrid heat pumps)
  • HVLS fans (to destratificate inside the building)
  • air handling units
